Your Role and Responsibilities

As a member of the PennyLane Compilation team, your primary focus will be on the design and upkeep of Just-In-Time (JIT) and Ahead-Of-Time (AOT) hybrid compilation frameworks for PennyLane, an open-source platform tailored for quantum machine learning, quantum computing, and quantum chemistry.

You will be tasked with:

  • Translating abstract algorithmic concepts into efficient and comprehensible software implementations.
  • Conducting research and development to support emerging hardware platforms, programming methodologies, and software tools aimed at optimizing performance for quantum computing tasks.
  • Clarifying and conveying complex ideas to the broader team.
  • Engaging in software system specification, design, and quality assurance processes, including requirements gathering, defining software architecture, and documentation.
  • Leading initiatives in software best practices, such as continuous integration pipelines, unit testing, documentation, and code reviews.

Basic Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in developing modern optimizing compilers across various architectures.
  • Proficient in Python and C++ programming languages.
  • Experience in benchmarking and performance-oriented optimizations.
  • A strong emphasis on software testing and quality assurance.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in developing projects utilizing MLIR and/or LLVM.
  • Knowledge of advanced compiler optimization techniques.
  • Familiarity with automatic differentiation methods and frameworks such as Autograd, Torch, TensorFlow, or JAX.
  • Educational background or training in quantum computing, including relevant work experience, coursework, or publications.
  • Experience in developing toolkits, compilers, or runtime environments for heterogeneous architectures.
