Your Role and Responsibilities
As a member of the PennyLane Compilation team, you will be responsible for designing and implementing JIT and AOT hybrid compilation pipelines for PennyLane, an open-source software framework for quantum machine learning, quantum computing, and quantum chemistry.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Transforming abstract algorithm descriptions into efficient and understandable software implementations.
- Conducting research and development to support new hardware platforms, programming paradigms, and software tooling to optimize performance for quantum computing workloads.
- Communicating complex concepts to the team and ensuring seamless collaboration.
- Participating in software system specification, design, and quality assurance, including requirements gathering, software architecture definition, documentation, verification, and validation.
- Leading by example in software best practices, including continuous-integration pipelines, unit testing, documentation, and code reviews.
Requirements and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Physics, Computer Science, Math, Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in modern optimizing compilers for various architectures.
- Strong knowledge of Python and C++ programming languages.
- Experience with benchmarking and performance-oriented optimizations.
- A strong focus on testing and software quality.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
We're looking for candidates with:
- Experience developing projects using MLIR and/or LLVM.
- Understanding of advanced compiler optimization techniques.
- Familiarity with automatic differentiation methods and frameworks (e.g., Autograd, Torch, TensorFlow, JAX).
- Education or training in quantum computing (e.g., coursework, thesis, or peer-reviewed publications).
- Experience developing toolkits, compilers, or runtime environments for heterogeneous architectures.
