We are seeking a dedicated and dependable individual to provide assistance to the MMIWG (Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women and Girls) initiative. This role involves delivering support, referrals, translation, and cultural education services related to IRS / MMIWG, and requires an understanding of Woodland Cree culture and traditions, as well as a commitment to a healthy lifestyle.

Position Overview: The successful candidate will be responsible for providing support, referrals, translation, and cultural education services in the MMIWG field. This includes establishing networks and relationships with various groups at national, regional, and community levels to promote awareness of the IRS Resolution Health Supports Program and related issues. The role also involves assisting communities in capacity building to address the impacts of Indian Residential Schools and facilitating the translation process (Cree/English). Additionally, the candidate will collaborate with other healthcare teams to organize events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer counseling to family members affected by missing persons.
  • Provide referrals to established community healing and wellness resources (e.g., mental health and addiction treatment centers).
  • Maintain confidential records of clients and services provided.
  • Encourage family participation in self-help groups, IRS support groups, or healing circles.
  • Coordinate transportation needs for families.
  • Demonstrate a self-care plan that embodies a healthy traditional lifestyle, including collaboration with elders and the use of traditional healing practices.

Qualifications:

  • Certificate in Social Work or a Diploma in Justice Studies or a related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with First Nations communities.
  • Able to work independently and demonstrate self-direction.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and work effectively as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in Cree and familiarity with Woodland Cree culture is advantageous.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver's License and be willing to travel to outlying communities.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask.
