DUTIES:

The Child Welfare Intake Specialist is tasked with delivering comprehensive intake case services to families and children within the jurisdiction of All Nations Coordinated Response Network (ANCR). This role emphasizes the prioritization of intake activities, emergency response, and crisis management. The specialist is responsible for follow-up on intake concerns and needs, evaluating service requests with a focus on child safety, family dynamics, and overall service requirements.

The specialist conducts investigations related to child protection, intervenes to safeguard children at risk, and facilitates their placement in suitable and available environments. Additionally, the role involves initiating referrals to relevant community partners and completing necessary documentation, including reports, file entries, forms, and correspondence.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A deep understanding of the effects of colonization, the history of residential schools, and the 60's scoop, along with a strong commitment to de-colonization efforts and the ability to challenge stereotypes and misconceptions about Indigenous Peoples.
  • A Bachelor of Social Work degree or a comparable combination of education and experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a child welfare setting, with experience in Child and Family Services protection being advantageous.
  • Familiarity with issues related to substance abuse, domestic violence, child development, and child abuse/neglect, as well as knowledge of community resources.
  • Proven skills in crisis intervention, child protection investigations, and assessing high-risk scenarios requiring immediate action.
  • Awareness and understanding of multicultural issues, with demonstrated ability to work effectively across diverse cultural contexts.
  • Strong organizational, computer, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team.
  • Capacity to perform well under pressure and manage workload efficiently in a team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in French and/or an Indigenous language is considered an asset.
  • Essential competencies for this role include communication, cultural awareness, client focus, decision-making, teamwork, organizational skills, and resilience under stress.

*A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle with $2,000,000 liability insurance are prerequisites for this position.

*A satisfactory criminal records check, prior contact check, and a review of the Child Abuse Registry are mandatory for all employment positions within ANCR.
