Position Summary

The Director of Finance, reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), is instrumental in overseeing the company's accounting operations. This role encompasses the preparation of regular financial reports, establishing a comprehensive accounting record system with effective controls and processes, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and relevant legislation. The Director of Finance also serves as the primary liaison for the accounting function across various departments, facilitating understanding among non-financial personnel and collaboratively enforcing company policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead, coordinate, and manage all accounting operations within the organization, providing guidance and support to accounts receivable and accounts payable functions.
  2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the accounting department meets operational requirements, from vendor management to reporting.
  3. Prepare and present the monthly financial reporting package. Supervise and review the completion of monthly and year-end account reconciliations. Oversee the annual audit process.
  4. Manage treasury functions, including maintaining cash flow forecasts, ensuring timely accounts receivable, and overseeing the hedging program.
  5. Organize and consolidate all financial data necessary for accurate reporting and regulatory compliance.
  6. Work closely with Human Resources and Project Management to integrate systems and processes for efficient financial reporting.
  7. Develop and oversee enhancements to the company's enterprise resource planning (ERP) and other financial reporting systems.
  8. Continuously assess and update finance policies, procedures, and internal controls as necessary.
  9. Conduct research and analysis on accounting issues, staying informed of evolving accounting regulations and their implications for company policies.
  10. Oversee regulatory reporting, tax preparation, and compliance across various jurisdictions, collaborating with external advisors for tax returns, transfer pricing, and research and development tax credits.
  11. Manage, mentor, and coach the accounting team to achieve departmental goals and objectives.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Commerce.
  2. Professional designation as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA).
  3. A minimum of ten years of relevant experience.
  4. Proven experience in managing, motivating, and mentoring accounting teams.
  5. Proficient in financial software with experience in implementing and optimizing ERP systems and other accounting tools.
  6. Strong understanding of accounting principles.
  7. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
  8. Effective organizational skills with the capacity to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple assignments with conflicting deadlines.
  9. Detail-oriented with a focus on customer service and quality.
  10. Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with the ability to convey financial concepts in understandable terms.
  11. Flexible, organized, and capable of multitasking with strong problem-solving skills.
  12. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, along with strong skills in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  13. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
