The Student's Society of McGill University (SSMU) is currently in the process of hiring. With a membership exceeding 20,000, SSMU has been dedicated to representing students and providing essential services since 1908.

Position Overview

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Francophone Affairs Commissioner will collaborate closely with the Vice-President (Internal Affairs) to provide guidance to Executives, advocate for students, and enhance the visibility of the francophone community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide counsel to SSMU regarding the representation of the francophone community at McGill University and address concerns pertinent to francophone students; Support the translation of weekly communications disseminated by SSMU; Serve as an advocate for the francophone community within SSMU; Report to the Vice-President (Internal Affairs) of SSMU on a monthly basis; Ensure the protection of francophone rights; Promote the francophone elements of McGill University to the broader student population; Encourage greater participation of francophones in campus activities; Assist, when appropriate, any initiatives proposed by a francophone student or recognized group within SSMU.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

To undertake other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Vice-President (Internal Affairs) as needed.

SUPERVISION:

The Francophone Affairs Commissioner will report directly to the Vice-President (Internal Affairs).

Required Qualifications

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Familiarity with the francophone community; Understanding of SSMU and McGill University; Knowledge of the SSMU website, mandates, events, and activities; Highly organized with a keen attention to detail; Proficient communication skills in both English and French are mandatory.
