Position Overview:
The Recreation Therapy Specialist plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for residents in long-term care settings. This position involves the development and execution of tailored programs aimed at boosting self-esteem and promoting social interaction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement specialized programs that foster self-worth and personal growth.
- Evaluate the recreational and leisure needs of residents through comprehensive assessments.
- Coordinate outreach services to ensure residents have access to necessary resources.
- Support the Rehabilitation Assistant in executing restorative care activities.
- Maintain effective communication and positive relationships with residents, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
- Participate in ongoing education sessions, staff meetings, and workshops to enhance professional development.
- Ensure accurate record-keeping in compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Fulfill all responsibilities associated with the role of Recreation Therapy Specialist.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology, Gerontology, or a related discipline.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification is mandatory.
- Proficient computer skills are essential.
- Demonstrated teaching abilities to effectively guide residents and their families.
- Ability to work independently, demonstrating innovation and organizational skills.
- Physical capability to perform all assigned duties.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends.
- Food Handler Certification is required.
- Smart Serve Certificate is necessary.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong organizational skills to prioritize tasks and manage scheduling effectively.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to interact appropriately with residents, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
- Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion within the workplace.
