Design and Construction Engineer

Join the City of St. Catharines as a Design and Construction Engineer and play a key role in shaping the city's infrastructure. As a member of the Engineering, Facilities and Environmental Services Department, you will be responsible for providing professional engineering services, including signing and sealing documents, and providing technical advice to various departments.

- Organize and supervise technical staff to ensure adherence to municipal and provincial standards and policies.
- Schedule and coordinate the design and construction of municipal projects, including those budgeted for by other departments.
- Monitor expenditures for municipal construction projects to ensure they remain within allocated budget amounts.
- Complete detailed design directly or with the assistance of in-house technical staff or consultants.
- Coordinate with the Regional Municipality of Niagara to ensure that all projects undertaken by the Region within the City have included any necessary improvements to the City's municipal services.
- Review and update general tender specifications for all municipal construction projects.
- Represent the Engineering, Facilities and Environmental Services Department at public meetings, in legal proceedings, and on committees and task forces as assigned.
- Coordinate quality control testing services on construction projects.
- Evaluate system deficiencies and develop, review, analyze, and recommend policies, procedures, and criteria for the maintenance, rehabilitation, and construction of City infrastructure asset categories.
- A University Degree in Civil Engineering.
- Registration in the P.E.O. as a Civil Engineer (P. Eng.).
- Five years of experience in the areas of planning, design, construction, and maintenance of municipal infrastructure.
- Working knowledge of computer systems, including application software packages.
- Proven ability to direct and manage the planning, design, and construction of municipal infrastructure.
- Demonstrated leadership, customer service, and communication skills.
- Evidence of effective organizational, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
- Flexibility to adapt operations to changing workloads.
- Valid Class G driver's license.
- Proven completion of Ministry of Labour Supervisor Health and Safety Awareness training.
- A demonstrated commitment to enhancing a safety culture.
Minimum $108,945 annually; Maximum $127,436 annually
Work Location and Hours:City Hall (eligible for some remote work); Currently Monday to Friday 8:30AM - 4:30PM
