Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mining Operations Specialist to join our team at Ontario Transit Group. As a key member of our excavation team, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining mining equipment, ensuring safe and efficient excavation processes, and supporting the construction of the subway tunnel.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate and Maintain Mining Equipment: Operate tunnel boring machines (TBMs), roadheaders, and other excavation tools to excavate tunnels and underground structures.
  • Conduct Pre-Operational Checks and Routine Maintenance: Conduct regular checks and maintenance on mining equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Follow Excavation Plans and Specifications: Follow detailed excavation plans and specifications to ensure that tunneling activities meet project requirements.
  • Monitor and Manage Tunnel Support Systems: Monitor and manage tunnel support systems, including shotcrete, rock bolts, and other reinforcement techniques to ensure tunnel stability.
  • Ensure Compliance with Safety Regulations: Ensure compliance with safety regulations and protocols in all mining activities to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Record and Report Daily Production Metrics: Record and report daily production metrics, equipment usage, and any issues encountered to optimize excavation efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Engineers and Supervisors: Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and other team members to optimize excavation efficiency and ensure project success.
  • Participate in Safety Meetings and Training: Participate in safety meetings and training sessions to maintain high safety standards and stay up-to-date with industry best practices.
  • Support Installation of Tunnel Utilities: Support the installation of tunnel utilities, including ventilation, lighting, and communication systems.
  • Assist with Removal of Excavated Material: Assist with the removal of excavated material and ensure proper disposal practices are followed.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3-5 Years of Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of experience in underground mining or tunneling operations.
  • Experience Operating Mining Equipment: Experience operating mining equipment, such as TBMs, roadheaders, and other excavation tools.
  • Strong Understanding of Tunneling Methods: Strong understanding of tunneling methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of Safety Regulations: Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in underground mining.
  • Ability to Read and Interpret Excavation Plans: Ability to read and interpret excavation plans and technical drawings.
  • Excellent Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to Work Independently and as Part of a Team: Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with Safety Regulations: Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in mining operations.
  • Physical Fitness: Must be physically fit and able to work in confined spaces.
