COWI is seeking a highly skilled Associate Technical Director to join our team in North America. As a key member of our leadership team, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of underground infrastructure projects.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading project teams in the evaluation of tunnel alignments, geometry of stations & shafts, temporary support systems, geotechnical data, structural analysis, design of tunnels and tunnel liner systems, coffer dams, slurry walls and cross passages.
  • Preparing work plans, schedules, and budgets along with preparing engineering reports, specifications, and other technical documents.
  • Supervising, coordinating, and managing the production of drawings and specifications for underground projects while also reviewing design options for both technical and financial impact.
  • Performing site and field inspections and condition assessments.

You will be responsible for:

  • Developing technical networks outside of COWI, including participation in technical conferences, publishing, and presenting technical papers.
  • Attracting and retaining key staff members while effectively mentoring other engineers to ensure the team's professional development.
  • Providing technical guidance and leadership in the development of technical solutions for underground projects.
  • Promoting 'one COWI network' including staff sharing.
  • Being responsible for hiring in conjunction with the Head of Section, Project Director and VP Ops.

Requirements

  • Degree in structural engineering or civil engineering or geotechnical engineering or field related to Underground Construction/Tunnelling.
  • P.Eng. designation in Ontario or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire. Licenses in US states an asset.
  • 15+ years of related experience in the tunnel and/or underground infrastructure with 5 plus years of prior experience working as a Design Manager.
  • Have experience in the delivery of Design-Build underground projects at all phases, including feasibility/conceptual studies to detailed design.
  • Have extensive experience in the tunneling/underground industry along with substantial technical management experience for small to large scale tunnel and underground projects.
