Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Rail Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor to join our team at the Car Shop - Willowbrook facility. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for supervising all aspects of rail vehicle maintenance, ensuring compliance with customer contractual requirements and promoting a culture of safety, customer service, and equal opportunity.
Key Responsibilities
- Support a culture where safety, customer service, and equal opportunity are at the forefront, promoting a workspace where protocols/procedures for Health and Safety and the Environment are implemented and adhered to.
- Supervise a team of unionized maintenance employees, planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the operation, ensuring all rail equipment service is completed on time and within schedule.
- Conduct job and safety briefings, investigate safety incidents and hazards, and perform facility inspections to ensure compliance with safety protocols.
- Make responsible decisions regarding operational and personnel matters, including allocation of resources, customer service issues, and corrective actions.
- Participate in meetings with staff, management, and customers on operational matters, providing advice and guidance on complex technical issues.
- Act as a supervisory point of contact for customer issues relating to equipment maintenance, investigating, consolidating information, determining root cause, and preparing comprehensive reports.
- Coordinate and ensure completion of special initiatives and projects, participating in continuous improvement programs to improve reliability and reduce costs.
- Measure and analyze equipment reliability key performance indicators, identifying failure trends and implementing reliability improvement strategies.
- Provide input on the preparation of the financial budget, ensuring the department works within budget parameters.
- Contribute to the development of department policies and procedures, promoting a positive and collaborative relationship with the Union.
Requirements
- 3 to 5 years of experience supervising in a rail maintenance environment and/or a related field, with rail locomotive and passenger coach experience and knowledge being an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and solve complex technical issues, with impeccable ethics and integrity.
- Skilled in promoting and ensuring a safe and inclusive work environment, with knowledge of preventative maintenance, work order, parts management, and scheduling techniques.
- Must have an understanding and background using computers and vehicle maintenance programs, with a diploma or degree in a related field being an asset.
Nice to Have
- Experience working in an unionized environment, with familiarity with other industries such as Aerospace.
- Familiarity with the rail industry and comprehensive knowledge of rail equipment.
