Financial Coordinator

Job Summary:
As a Financial Coordinator at McMaster University, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of financial transactions. You will analyze, record, and classify accounting data, ensuring that all financial procedures are followed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the collection, verification, and analysis of financial data.
- Maintain the department's financial management system, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Interpret and communicate financial policies and procedures to colleagues.
- Assist with internal and external audits, preparing audit files and responding to auditor inquiries.
- Develop and deliver training sessions on financial procedures and systems.
- Analyze data and assess for reasonableness.
- Assist with budget development and implementation.
- Exercise controls, monitor, and reconcile accounts.
- Prepare financial reports, statements, and documents.
- Perform various analyses and reconciliations of accounts.
- Generate reports and account statements, reviewing for accuracy.
- Provide training and guidance on accounting procedures and financial systems.
- Calculate, prepare, and issue invoices, cheques, and account statements.
- Process, verify, and balance financial records and transactions.
- Investigate discrepancies using established procedures.
- Monitor and reconcile statements, participating in account reconciliations.
- Prepare and generate scheduled and ad-hoc reports.
- Update, maintain, and verify information in spreadsheets and databases.
- Balance and control cash receipts, including floats and petty cash.
- Apply mathematical skills to perform calculations and create complex spreadsheets.
- Answer complex inquiries via phone, email, or in-person, requiring specialized knowledge of policies and procedures.
- Maintain filing systems, both electronic and hard copy.
Supervision:
- Provide direction to others on work tasks.
- Ensure adherence to quality standards and procedures for short-term staff.
Qualifications:
- 2-year Community College diploma in Accounting or a related field.
- 4 years of relevant experience.
