Our client in the public sector, located in Hamilton, is seeking a temporary Director, Finance & Facilities to lead their financial and facilities teams.

Budget Development and Monitoring:

  • Collaborate with the CFO and Senior Team members to plan, consolidate, and coordinate annual operating and capital budgets, ensuring compliance with budget directives.
  • Prepare financial forecasts and communicate with senior Administration and Managers.

Financial Controls and Risk Management:

  • Review financial data regularly for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulated accounting standards.
  • Develop and implement accounting practices and controls to ensure compliance with applicable policies, legislation; oversee interpretation and application of accounting and finance procedures, policies, and controls.
  • Work with auditors during internal audits.
  • Negotiate and monitor contracts for supplies and maintenance equipment.

Financial Management & Reporting:

  • Ensure the long-range goals of the department are developed.
  • Supervise both Finance and Facilities teams.
  • Oversee cash flow forecasting, planning, and management, taking appropriate measures to meet financial obligations.

Facilities Management:

  • Oversee building systems to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Plan and oversee building projects, including moves, modifications, and new buildings.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with proven managerial skills and excellent people skills.
  • 5-7 years' experience in a management role related to financial and accounting services.
  • Proven knowledge of budgeting and financial planning.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and PSAB accounting standards.
  • Proficiency in Peoplesoft is an asset.
