- Professional Patient-Centered Care: Provide professional, patient-centered care to ensure patient safety and physiological and psychological well-being, creating a therapeutic relationship and environment.
- Cultural Competence: Provide care in a compassionate and caring manner within a diverse cultural environment, respecting the unique needs of each patient.
- Infection Control: Practice according to infection control and prevention measures, ensuring a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Emergency Situations: Respond to emergency situations by recognizing changes in patient health status and consulting appropriately when necessary, using transfer of accountability principles.
- Health Teaching: Provide health teaching to patients and families, including thorough discharge instructions to ensure continuity of care in the community.
- Experience: Minimum two years recent experience and interest in general medicine/inpatient surgery with exemplary clinical practice in the related field required.
- Training: Seniors gentle persuasive approaches training, or experience with a seniors population preferred.
- Registration: Current registration, and in good standing, with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Nursing Knowledge: Sound knowledge of nursing process, theory, and responsibilities to the nursing profession.
- CPR Certification: BCLS required.
- Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, conflict-resolution, and decision-making skills required.
- Teamwork: Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an inter-professional team.
- Patient-Centered Care: Demonstrated knowledge of patient and family-centred care.
- Health Teaching: Demonstrated experience with patient and family health teaching required.
- Leadership: Demonstrated leadership and facilitation skills required.
- Customer Service: Demonstrated excellent customer service, organizational, and critical-thinking skills required.
- Continuous Learning: Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development as it applies to the profession and related field.
- Stress Management: Demonstrated ability to work in a stressful and fast-paced environment.
- Leadership: Exemplary clinical practice within an inter-professional team to develop appropriate strategies for patient care.
- Autonomy: Ability to prioritize patient care needs and make autonomous decisions.
- Physical Assessment: Excellent physical assessment skills required.
