Job Summary

CB Canada is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Racing Groundsman to join our team in the Racing Department. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our racing facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Loading and Unloading Horses: Safely load and unload horses from the starting gate at the post time of each race.
  • Starting Gate Setup and Maintenance: Assist in the placement and setup of the starting gate for each race, including dismantling and reassembling sections of the track rail, testing the gate, and adjusting numbers.
  • General Track Maintenance: Perform various tasks to maintain the track and surrounding areas, including raking and cleaning.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by management to ensure the smooth operation of the racing facilities.
Requirements
  • Education: Minimum Grade 12 Education or equivalent.
  • Horsemanship Skills: Very good general horsemanship and significant experience working with and around horses in confined spaces.
  • Physical Abilities: Physical ability to perform duties to required level, including alertness, physical agility, and the ability to effectively hold and maneuver unruly horses.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Working knowledge of operations and regulations pertaining to thoroughbred horse racing is an asset. Ability to work in a team setting, with good interpersonal skills and the ability to take instruction and/or work effectively without direct supervision.
  • Additional Requirements: Ability to react quickly, under pressure, and effectively. Must successfully pass a criminal and credit record check by the Gaming and Policy Enforcement Branch (GPEB) - Racing.
