Position Overview: As the Director of Credit Risk Management at National Bank of Canada, you will engage with a diverse array of sectors, from straightforward financing to intricate syndicated transactions. This role is pivotal in fostering the sustainable growth of our credit portfolios and making a significant contribution to our organization.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a specialist and Team Leader, guiding colleagues and business units in the evaluation and management of credit portfolios, while also gaining exposure to substantial projects across various industries.
  • Assess and approve credit applications within your designated limits or recommend them to senior management for those exceeding your authority, ensuring alignment with the Bank's risk appetite.
  • Contribute to the identification of the Bank's risk management strategies and actively engage in oversight and governance discussions.
  • Collaborate with business units to adjust credit policies to align with our risk tolerance for credit portfolios.
  • Work alongside modeling teams to review and enhance applicable risk models.
  • Standardize and oversee the implementation of credit policies and procedures, suggesting improvements to maintain the integrity of the credit portfolio, enhance process efficiency, and support business growth.
  • Participate in various committees as an expert or engage in internal and external initiatives that require a high level of expertise, representing the Bank in interactions with different agencies and organizations.
  • Mentor business units to bolster business development initiatives, assist in onboarding, and provide continuous training to junior team members.

Additional Duties:

  • Engage in the deal flow process by advising business units on drafting term sheets that meet Risk Management standards.
  • Proactively monitor accounts on the watchlist to safeguard the Bank's interests.
  • Swiftly identify borrowers that should be referred to the Special Loans Division.
  • Enhance and maintain your understanding of treasury products and tools for managing credit risk, including ISDA and CSA.

Your Team:

You will join a specialized team of around ten professionals in the Risk Management and Adjudication sector within Capital Markets and National Accounts, reporting to the Vice-President of Credit Capital Markets. Our team is distinguished by its strategic role in supporting the Bank's growth.

Qualifications:

  • A completed bachelor's degree in a relevant field with 10 years of pertinent experience, or a master's degree with 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Accounting or CFA designation is considered an asset.
  • Significant experience in Large Commercial and/or Corporate Lending.
  • Experience in Capital Markets or other relevant fields.
  • Proven business development experience.
  • Strong analytical and synthesis skills.
  • Excellent negotiation abilities.
  • Effective communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Knowledge of French is an asset.
