The Opportunity

As the Chief Financial Officer and Bursar, you will be the financial backbone of Nunavut Arctic College, leading all financial operations with precision, integrity, and a strategic mindset. This role offers an extraordinary opportunity to manage the college's financial resources while immersing yourself in the rich culture and rugged beauty of the Arctic.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and risk management to ensure the college remains financially sound.
  • Manage the college's financial resources, including base funding from the Government of Nunavut and various third-party funding sources.
  • Develop and implement strategic financial plans to support the college's mission of educational excellence.
  • Collaborate with local and decentralized positions to navigate the unique financial landscape of the college.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and reporting requirements.

Candidate Profile

  • Hold a professional financial designation (e.g., Chartered Accountant, Certified General Accountant).
  • Have at least 5 years of senior-level experience managing post-secondary programs or leading a culturally diverse, complex organization, preferably in the public sector.
  • Possess a strong background in budget management, strategic planning, and collaborative leadership.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of cultural diversity, especially the needs of special populations, with strong communication skills.
  • Be proficient in drafting complex business proposals, with knowledge of Inuit language, culture, and government policies considered valuable assets.
  • Ability to explain financial responsibilities to communities such as NAC Senior Management and the Board of Governors.
