We are seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer to join our team at the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for managing, undertaking, and administering a variety of planning, preliminary, and detailed-design highway improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and administer highway improvement projects, including acquisition and management of consultants.
  • Liaise and work with ministry staff, senior management, internal stakeholders, external agencies, municipalities, developers, consultants, and the public.
  • Lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Direct and supervise assigned staff.
  • Acquire, administer, and evaluate engineering service providers.
  • Lead public consultation programs.
  • Provide engineering and technical advice and direction to design staff, management, consultants, and construction staff.
  • Protect ministry interests on land development proposals adjacent to transportation corridors.
Requirements
  • You must be a Professional Engineer, licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • You must have a valid class G driver's license or equivalent.
Technical Knowledge
  • You must have thorough knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of civil engineering related to highway engineering.
  • You must have working knowledge of related fields, including geotechnical, pavement design, structural, drainage, surveys, electrical, traffic, and construction practices.
Project Management and Leadership Skills
  • You must have project management skills to manage projects, including acquisition and management of consultants.
  • You must have well-developed leadership skills to assign and schedule work.
  • You must have the ability to prioritize and execute tasks at a moment's notice to support stakeholder correspondence and area office service requests.
Interpersonal, Relationship-Building, and Communication Skills
  • You must have proven oral and written communications skills to write reports and present proposals, recommendations, and provide expert evidence.
  • You must have proven effective interpersonal and relationship management skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, senior officials, and the public.
Analytical, Problem-Solving, and Decision-Making Skills
  • You must have sound analytical skills and good judgment to assess and recommend solutions to problems in terms of applicable legislation, engineering quality, economic benefit, and environmental impact.
  • You must have demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills.
