Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Highway Maintenance and Construction Specialist to join our team at the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for planning, preparing, and administering road maintenance and regional contracts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare, and administer road maintenance and regional contracts
  • Perform inspections and administration, including warranty requirements for highway regional contracts
  • Provide technical and administrative support to ensure contract delivery
Requirements
  • Valid class 'G' driver's license or equivalent
  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles related to highway construction, maintenance, and road design
  • Demonstrated knowledge of contract preparation, tendering practices, administration, and monitoring of warranties
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies pertaining to contract administration and payments
  • Ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation and acts to provide advice to stakeholders
  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction safety methods and practices
  • Ability to read and interpret contract documents and plans
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial reporting procedures to maintain records, monitor budgets, and forecast expenditures
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge to review, recommend, and identify road rehabilitation alternatives
  • Proven analytical, evaluation, and decision-making skills to assess alternatives, evaluate tender submissions, and recommend technical solutions
  • Proven communication and interpersonal skills to use tact and diplomacy when interacting with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven technical writing skills to produce technical reports, correspondence, specifications, and contract documents
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to negotiate design and contract language on behalf of the ministry in a productive and constructive manner
Working Environment

This is a permanent, full-time position with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
