We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Highway Maintenance and Construction Specialist to join our team at the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for planning, preparing, and administering road maintenance and regional contracts.
Key Responsibilities- Plan, prepare, and administer road maintenance and regional contracts
- Perform inspections and administration, including warranty requirements for highway regional contracts
- Provide technical and administrative support to ensure contract delivery
- Valid class 'G' driver's license or equivalent
- Demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles related to highway construction, maintenance, and road design
- Demonstrated knowledge of contract preparation, tendering practices, administration, and monitoring of warranties
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies pertaining to contract administration and payments
- Ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation and acts to provide advice to stakeholders
- Demonstrated knowledge of construction safety methods and practices
- Ability to read and interpret contract documents and plans
- Demonstrated knowledge of financial reporting procedures to maintain records, monitor budgets, and forecast expenditures
- Demonstrated knowledge to review, recommend, and identify road rehabilitation alternatives
- Proven analytical, evaluation, and decision-making skills to assess alternatives, evaluate tender submissions, and recommend technical solutions
- Proven communication and interpersonal skills to use tact and diplomacy when interacting with internal and external stakeholders
- Proven technical writing skills to produce technical reports, correspondence, specifications, and contract documents
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to negotiate design and contract language on behalf of the ministry in a productive and constructive manner
This is a permanent, full-time position with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
