Job Summary

This exciting role requires a Professional Engineer with a passion for highway engineering projects, strong project management skills, and the ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams. You will be responsible for managing, undertaking, and administering highway improvement projects, providing technical advice, and protecting ministry interests.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and administer highway improvement projects, including acquisition and management of consultants
  • Liaise with ministry staff, senior management, internal stakeholders, external agencies, municipalities, developers, and the public
  • Lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Direct and supervise assigned staff
  • Acquire, administer, and evaluate engineering service providers
  • Lead public consultation programs
  • Provide engineering and technical advice to design staff, management, consultants, and construction staff
  • Protect ministry interests on land development proposals adjacent to transportation corridors
Requirements Mandatory
  • Professional Engineer, licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)
  • Valid class G driver's licence or equivalent
Technical Knowledge
  • Thorough knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of civil engineering related to highway engineering
  • Working knowledge of related fields, including geotechnical, pavement design, structural, drainage, surveys, electrical, traffic, and construction practices
Project Management and Leadership Skills
  • Project management skills to manage projects, including acquisition and management of consultants
  • Well-developed leadership skills to assign and schedule work
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks at moment's notice to support stakeholder correspondence and area office service requests
Interpersonal, Relationship-Building, and Communication Skills
  • Proven oral and written communications skills to write reports and present proposals, recommendations, and provide expert evidence
  • Proven effective interpersonal and relationship management skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, senior officials, and the public
Analytical, Problem-Solving, and Decision-Making Skills
  • Sound analytical skills and good judgement to assess and recommend solutions to problems in terms of applicable legislation, engineering quality, economic benefit, and environmental impact
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills
