About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Dance Instructor to join our team at the YMCA Greater Toronto. As a Dance Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching dance specific programming to children and youth, developing short and long-term lesson plans, and maintaining a safe environment at all times.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver course content and assess participants based on industry-standard dance criteria.
  • Develop and implement sequential weekly lesson plans that cater to the unique needs of participants.
  • Recognize and respond to participant learning styles, adapting your teaching approach accordingly.
  • Coach and develop participants to achieve success and reach their full potential.
  • Communicate participant progress to parents and supervisors through verbal and written updates.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date weekly progress sheets and records for participants.
  • Take attendance, ensure participants are signed in and out of the program, and set up/take down equipment as required.
  • Actively participate in scheduled programs, meetings, and special events.
  • Collaborate with program members, volunteers, and staff to provide additional support and resources to participants.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor to ensure quality programs for all members.
Requirements
  • Diploma or degree in Fine Arts (Dance) or equivalent training through a recognized organization.
  • Current certifications in Lifesaving Society awards, including Standard First Aid and CPR level C (asset).
  • Minimum 1 year of experience instructing children and youth in dance.
  • Good theoretical and practical knowledge of child and youth development through previous experience and continuing professional development.
  • Ability to encourage and motivate members and volunteers, acknowledging and appreciating their achievements and contributions.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development in working with children and youth.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with excellent communication skills.
  • Flexibility regarding assigned work schedules, including weekday afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and building a sense of belonging.
