Job Title: Dance Instructor for Children and Youth

We are seeking a qualified Dance Instructor for Children and Youth to join our team at the YMCA Greater Toronto. As a Dance Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching dance specific programming to children and youth, developing short and long-term lesson plans, and maintaining a safe environment at all times.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver course content and assess participants based on industry-standard dance criteria.
  • Develop and implement sequential weekly lesson plans that cater to the unique needs of participants.
  • Recognize and respond to participant learning styles, adapting content accordingly.
  • Coach and develop participants to achieve success.
  • Communicate participant progress to parents and supervisors through verbal and written reports.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date weekly progress sheets and records for participants.
  • Take attendance, ensure participants are signed in and out of the program, and set up/take down equipment as required.
  • Actively participate in scheduled programs, meetings, and special events.
  • Collaborate with program members, volunteers, and staff to promote additional programs and services.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor to ensure quality programs for all members.
Requirements:
  • Diploma or degree in Fine Arts (Dance) or equivalent training through a recognized organization.
  • Current certifications in Lifesaving Society awards: Standard First Aid & CPR level C (asset).
  • Minimum 1 year experience instructing children and youth in dance.
  • Good theoretical and practical knowledge of child and youth development through previous experience and continuing professional development.
  • Ability to motivate and encourage members, volunteers, and staff.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Flexibility regarding assigned work schedules, including weekday afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
