About the Role

The Dining Services Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of delivery and serving of meals to residents and guests, as well as the cleanliness of the servery, dining area, and bar area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in the residence's Verve Quality Improvement (VQI) program
  • Assist the Dining Services Manager in the recruitment, selection, orientation, and training of new server staff
  • Coordinate catering functions
  • Provide direction for scheduled work duties of servers ensuring that dining service meets or surpasses accepted standards
  • Meet and greet residents upon arrival to the dining room and seat them appropriately
  • Coordinate ordering and keeping track of inventory of liquor, wine, beer, and other requirements for bar service
  • Participate in the performance appraisal process with the manager of all servers on an annual basis
  • Liaise with new residents for dining room seating and arrange table transfers as required and meal seating times
  • Ensure that meal service is carried out in accordance with approved policies and procedures
  • Coordinate set-up, service, and cleaning of catering functions
  • Ensure that the appropriate action is taken to resolve conflicts in the dining room either between residents or between residents and staff
  • Monitor the cleanliness of dining room furnishings, china, glassware, cutlery, and table linens and take corrective action when required
  • Implement and monitor proper standards for table set-up, food service, and table clearing which conform to all sanitary and safety regulations, and dining services standards
  • Provide assistance to servers as required
  • Ensure that dining room, serving station, and bar area are cleaned, vacuumed, and sanitized after each meal period
  • Participate in department in-services and meetings as required, including the resident food committee
  • Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information Systems

Requirements

  • Food Handler and Smart Serve Certifications
  • Minimum of grade 12 education with good oral and written skills in English
  • Two years' previous experience in a similar position in a hotel/restaurant or institutional setting
