Position Summary:

We are seeking skilled pipelayers with experience in underground utilities construction to enhance our Lethbridge operations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate meticulous attention to detail while supporting the Operations Team in various construction tasks. Reporting directly to the Superintendent, the Pipelayer will embody Whissell's vision, mission, and core values, focusing on our daily pillars of Safety, Quality, and Efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Train, mentor, and inspire junior crew members.
  • Execute directives from the site foreman safely during daily operations.
  • Install pipes of various sizes and materials.
  • Work safely in deep trench environments.
  • Operate safely around excavation machinery, including excavators and loaders.
  • Cut pipes to specified lengths as required.
  • Verify slopes for compliance using levels or lasers.
  • Excavate trenches to required depths using hand tools or trenching equipment.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to junior staff.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work site.
  • Ensure adherence to Alberta OH&S regulations and Whissell safety policies.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience as a Pipelayer in the deep underground utility installation sector.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of pipe lasers and transit equipment.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and municipal specifications.
  • Proficiency in reading and understanding locates.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
