About Us
The South Coast Conservation Land Management Program (SCCLMP) is a collaborative initiative involving Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC), the Nature Trust of British Columbia, the Province of BC's Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship (WLRS), and the Canadian Wildlife Service of Environment and Climate Change Canada. Our mission is to conserve and manage over 37,000 hectares of designated conservation lands across the BC South Coast Region, benefiting significant fish and wildlife species, including those at risk.
As part of DUC, the SCCLMP Field Operations Lead role offers the opportunity to work with one of the leading conservation organizations in the nation, surrounded by individuals who are dedicated to preserving nature as the cornerstone of thriving communities, a robust economy, and a sustainable future for generations to come. Together, we strive to conserve and restore some of the planet's most valuable and threatened landscapes.
Key Responsibilities
This role will oversee and implement field operations related to the management of provincial conservation areas within the BC South Coast region. During peak seasons, the position will supervise a small seasonal field crew; during other times, responsibilities will include independent, project-based fieldwork and various office-related tasks such as planning, coordination, data management, grant writing, and reporting.
Under the guidance of the SCCLMP Coordinator, the Field Operations Lead will be responsible for:
- Executing operational tasks including the upkeep of trails, signage, infrastructure, and habitat structures; conducting property inspections; removing debris; and reporting land management concerns.
- Leading invasive species management efforts, including surveying and monitoring invasive plants, applying control measures, and managing data using FieldMaps and InvasivesBC.
- Supervising and coordinating the seasonal field crew, including recruitment, task scheduling, and ensuring adherence to safety and human resource policies.
- Supporting restoration and research initiatives, such as the Forslund-Watson Wetland Restoration, volunteer activities, and Coastal Dune Ecosystem research projects.
- Identifying priority restoration projects through collaboration with partners, spatial data analysis, and on-site assessments.
- Assisting the SCCLMP Coordinator in developing funding proposals for restoration, inventory, and monitoring initiatives as identified above.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in conservation or management of fish, wildlife, or ecosystems, with a minimum of two (2) years' experience in conservation, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain one).
- Experience in identifying and managing invasive plant species prevalent in the BC South Coast.
- Experience working in remote locations and a willingness to work under challenging weather and environmental conditions.
- A positive attitude, eagerness to learn, ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with a focus on quality, and capability to work independently as well as in team settings.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; ability to write in both technical and plain language styles.
- Proficiency in data management and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as experience with maps, GPS devices, tablets, and GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, Google Earth).

- Familiarity with diverse habitats including wetlands, forests, and agricultural areas is an asset.
- Membership or eligibility for membership in the College of Applied Biologists is a plus.
- Pesticide Applicator's Certificate for Industrial Vegetation and Noxious Weeds (or willingness to obtain one) is advantageous.
