Reporting directly to the President and Vice-Chancellor, the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer (CFAO) is the principal financial and administrative leader of Carleton. This role involves providing strategic direction, oversight, and stewardship for the university's core support services. The CFAO will collaborate closely with the President, senior leadership team, and Board of Governors. Leading a skilled team of professionals, the CFAO will ensure the effective administration of the portfolio's units, excelling in areas such as: financial services; pension fund management; human resources; facilities management and planning; information technology; as well as safety and risk management. The CFAO will oversee a full-time staff of over 360 employees and manage operating and ancillary budgets exceeding $100 million.

The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record of senior financial and operational leadership across various domains, including finance, administration, human resources, facilities management, and information technology. They will hold the necessary educational qualifications and professional credentials to ensure credibility and accountability. The new CFAO will have played a significant role in financial planning to guarantee the viability and sustainability of assets, service delivery, and personnel management within a complex public organization. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, along with outstanding judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities, are essential. The ability to inspire a dedicated team while supporting the university's academic mission is crucial.
