About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Tutor/Teacher to join our team at Sylvan Learning - Kelowna, BC. As a Tutor/Teacher, you will play a vital role in creating a positive and engaging learning experience for our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare for each instructional session by gathering and preparing materials as needed.
  • Engage students and initiate instruction to personally connect with each student.
  • Deliver instruction according to the design of the Sylvan programs.
  • Manage students, tasks, and time to create a balanced and robust instructional session.
  • Evaluate and record student progress on their program assignments.
  • Use praise and encouragement to motivate students and inspire a love of learning.
  • Record and track student achievements and progress.
  • Manage the conclusion of each instructional session and ensure student safety and well-being.
  • Communicate student needs to Center staff and attend periodic staff meetings.
Requirements
  • Language Arts and Study Skills Program Teachers: Four-year degree or equivalent required, state or provincial teaching credentials (current or expired), and a minimum of one or two years of teaching experience preferred.
  • Math Program Teachers: Four-year degree required in a discipline requiring 3 or more years of college-level math.
  • SAT/ACT, Test Prep, and Advanced Reading Skills Teachers: Four-year degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Knowledge of general office equipment and tablet computers preferred.
Skills and Abilities
  • Proven ability to engage, motivate, and inspire students to learn.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and be flexible.
  • Strong problem-solving and customer service skills.
  • Strong team player.
