Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Accountant to join our team at CAPREIT. As a key member of our accounting department, you will be responsible for preparing and maintaining accurate and timely financial records, including general accounting, costing, and budget data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements, including variance analysis and reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare and process monthly journal entries, ensuring proper supporting documentation.
  • Perform account reconciliations, including asset and liability general ledger account reconciliations, and maintain approved spreadsheets.
  • Reconcile rent roll sub-ledger and prepare tenant LMR interest cheques.
  • Assist in the preparation and analysis of annual operating budgets, including detailed utility rate and consumption analysis.
  • Handle queries from operations staff and auditors regarding portfolio-related matters.
  • Maintain accurate and complete monthly and year-end accounting working paper files.
  • Set up acquisitions and disposals in the computer system, including rent roll, subledgers, and account analysis.
  • Participate in special projects assigned by the Manager, Controller, or VP.

Qualifications:

  • College diploma or university degree in Accounting or Business.
  • CMA/CGA in progress.
  • A minimum of 2-5 years of financial statement preparation experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines, multi-task, and prioritize.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in French (English knowledge is an asset), both oral and written.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Excel.
