Course Details:

Course Title: PPG2013H - Topics in Public Policy: Canadian Energy Policy and the Transition

Course Synopsis: This course will delve into the recent dialogues held among various Canadian stakeholders in the energy sector, aimed at fostering a net-zero transition for Canada. Participants will explore the current narratives and identify critical gaps that need addressing to achieve a unified national strategy for a net-zero economy. The curriculum will cover Canada's potential to emerge as a global leader in delivering clean and cost-effective energy solutions in a low-carbon future. Students will analyze the roles of multiple stakeholders necessary to meet the Paris Agreement's objectives, including the target of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Enrollment and Support:

Estimated Student Enrollment: 25 students

Teaching Assistant Support: Not applicable

Class Schedule: Wednesdays at 10 AM

Delivery Method: The course is expected to be conducted in-person, though adjustments may be made based on departmental decisions.

Appointment Duration: The sessional appointment will span from September to December.

Compensation:

Salary will be determined based on the lecturer's rank, with rates varying from Sessional Lecturer I to Sessional Lecturer III, as outlined in the collective agreement.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements: A graduate degree in Law with a focus on public policy is essential. Candidates should possess extensive knowledge and experience in the regulatory sector, along with teaching experience at the graduate level.

Preferred Qualifications: A completed PhD is preferred.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Delivering graduate-level instruction
  • Developing course syllabi
  • Conducting three-hour classes
  • Providing weekly office hours for student consultations
  • Preparing and delivering course materials, assignments, and assessments
  • Evaluating student performance and submitting grades
