Indigenous Family Support Specialist

A diploma in Community Social Services, such as Mental Health Work, Child and Youth Care, or Social Services Work is required.
A minimum of two years of recent relevant experience working with Indigenous communities and resources is essential.
Familiarity with legislation including the Mental Health Act, the Infants Act, and duty to report regulations is necessary. A comprehensive understanding of available programs, their interconnections, and their roles in community care delivery is crucial. An extensive knowledge of Indigenous health issues, protocols, and health needs, encompassing the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of clients and communities is required. In-depth knowledge of Indigenous communities and resources, particularly those on Vancouver Island, is preferred. A strong understanding of harm reduction principles and practices is vital. A current Level C Basic Life Saving Certificate and a valid Class 5 vehicle license are mandatory.
