Hospital-Based Family Medicine Physician

Island Health is seeking a Physician to provide inpatient care at Cowichan District Hospital. This is a unique opportunity to work in a highly valued and rewarding service in our community hospital.
We have a comprehensive range of medical and surgical services, including general medical/surgical, ICU, perinatal, and psychiatry. Inpatient care is provided by family physicians seeing their attached patients and physicians working in a hospitalist-like team for unattached patients.
As an unattached inpatient team physician, you will provide coverage to a range of inpatients. Full and part-time shifts are available, with load limits of 10/15/20 patients based on your preference and other commitments. We pride ourselves on being flexible and supportive, with many physicians providing longitudinal care, maternity, or other work in addition to this service.
Our team is well-supported by specialists and works in a high-functioning interdisciplinary team. Billing templates and support are in place, and compensation is competitive with hospitalist contracts and fee-for-service primary care.
Approximately 10% of the local population is Indigenous, and an openness to learning to provide culturally safe care is essential.
We are committed to medical education and have opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, including third-year Integrated Clerkship students and Indigenous Family Medicine residents.
Benefits may be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA), including recruitment incentives, relocation assistance, and continuing medical education support.
