We are expanding our Cardiology service and are welcoming a dedicated, full-time Veterinary Technologist Assistant to join this unique referral service.
This role is centered around both client and patient care, providing a diverse and engaging daily experience. The cardiology service emphasizes excellence in patient treatment and effective communication with clients. This position is perfect for individuals with exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a keen desire to understand the underlying principles of tasks and procedures.
The successful candidate will become part of a cohesive team that collaborates effectively, and we are looking for someone who will enhance our team dynamics.
Work Schedule: The typical hours will be Monday to Thursday from 8 am to 6 pm, with some flexibility required for coverage in other areas of the facility as needed.
Educational Requirements:
Completion of a Veterinary Assistant Certificate Program or equivalent experience in a busy veterinary practice is preferred. Veterinary assistants in our organization are encouraged to enhance their skills through ongoing education opportunities provided throughout the year.Key Responsibilities:
Handling and restraining dogs and cats for various procedures. Assisting with the positioning of animals for radiographs, bloodwork, EKG, and ultrasound. Preparing and processing laboratory samples. Communicating with clients in person, via phone, and through email. Following up with clients through phone calls. Organizing and maintaining digital files. Monitoring and managing the Cardiology email inbox. Responding to inquiries from pet owners and referring veterinarians. Participating in staff meetings. Restocking medical supplies as needed. Performing various cleaning duties, including laundry and kennel cleaning. Assisting the Specialist and Registered Veterinary Technologist in various capacities.Required Skills and Knowledge:
Previous experience in an emergency or specialty veterinary setting is advantageous, but not mandatory. Experience in a general practice setting is also valuable. Recent graduates who are motivated and confident in their abilities are encouraged to apply. Excellent customer service and communication skills. A strong interest in continuous learning and improvement. Exceptional organizational abilities and a detail-oriented approach to work. Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills. A positive attitude, teamwork mentality, and commitment to fostering a supportive work environment. Emotional intelligence and a genuine passion for assisting clients and their pets. Ability to work calmly under pressure and independently on assigned tasks. Familiarity with dog and cat breeds and their characteristics. Knowledge of veterinary instruments, materials, and equipment usage and care. Understanding of hospital policies and procedures. Proficiency in standard medical and business abbreviations.
