Job Overview:

Under the supervision of the Centre Supervisor, the Cook is tasked with the planning and preparation of healthy and nutritious meals to be served at the child care facility and its associated programs. All food preparation adheres to Public Health standards, the Canada Food Guide, the Early Years Act (CCEYA), and relevant municipal and regional regulations, along with Family Day's policies and procedures. The Cook is also responsible for maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen and managing the laundry services of the child care centre.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and prepare nutritious meals in line with the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), in collaboration with the Centre Supervisor.
  • Create appropriate menu alternatives for children with allergies and specific dietary needs.
  • Ensure sufficient supplies are available to fulfill daily meal requirements.
  • Procure weekly groceries in a cost-effective manner according to the menu plan.
  • Prepare and serve daily lunches and snacks for children enrolled in both the child care centre and associated programs.
  • Regularly order food, cleaning supplies, and paper products monthly in consultation with the Centre Supervisor to maintain necessary stock levels.
  • Operate and uphold kitchen standards in compliance with Public Health inspection criteria.
  • Incorporate light housekeeping tasks into daily routines as needed.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Certificate or Diploma in Food Handling and Preparation.
  • Previous experience in meal preparation within a business or institutional context is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with current Public Health Guidelines and the Canadian Food Guide.
  • Experience in cooking for large groups.
  • Strong communication and writing skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Awareness of social and multicultural sensitivities.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle are required.
  • Medical clearance is necessary, including a two-stage TB test current within six months of hiring.
  • Police Vulnerable Sector Check current within six months of hiring.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification, level C.
  • Availability to work Monday through Friday.
