Job Purpose:

Under the guidance of the Centre Supervisor, the Cook plays a crucial role in the planning and preparation of nutritious meals to be served at the child care facility and its associated programs. All food preparation adheres to Public Health standards, the Canada Food Guide, the Early Years Act (CCEYA), and relevant municipal and regional regulations, as well as Family Day's policies and procedures. The Cook is also tasked with maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen and managing the laundry services of the child care centre.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and prepare healthy meals in line with the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), collaborating with the Centre Supervisor.
  • Create appropriate menu alternatives for children with allergies and specific dietary needs.
  • Ensure sufficient supplies are on hand to fulfill daily meal requirements.
  • Procure weekly groceries in a cost-effective manner according to the planned menu.
  • Prepare and serve daily lunches and snacks for children enrolled in both the child care centre and its associated programs.
  • Regularly order food, cleaning supplies, and paper products each month in consultation with the Centre Supervisor to maintain adequate stock.
  • Operate and maintain the kitchen in compliance with Public Health inspection standards.
  • Incorporate light housekeeping tasks into daily routines as needed.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Certificate or Diploma in Food Handling and Preparation.
  • Previous experience in meal preparation within a business or institutional environment is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of current Public Health Guidelines and the Canadian Food Guide.
  • Experience in cooking for large groups of individuals.
  • Strong communication and writing skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting.
  • Awareness of social and multicultural sensitivities.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle are required.
  • Medical documentation required, including TB screening (two stages).
  • Police Vulnerable Sector Check is necessary.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification, level C.
  • Availability to work Monday through Friday.
