Opportunity Overview:

The Camp Activity Worker plays a crucial role in fostering a collaborative environment within the School's Out Camp Connect Program. This position is dedicated to assisting in the planning, execution, and assessment of a program designed to provide an inclusive intercultural camp experience for children aged 6-12. The program emphasizes cross-cultural understanding, environmental stewardship, and holistic health, with a family-oriented approach. Priority is given to Indigenous and Newcomer children, followed by other high-risk groups.

Under the supervision of the Camp Coordinator, the Activity Worker will ensure the effective delivery of the program. The ideal candidate will possess a genuine passion for creating engaging, culturally sensitive activities for children, exhibit strong organizational skills, and foster positive relationships with families, colleagues, and community partners.

Key Responsibilities:


• Design and implement a diverse program featuring a variety of activities, such as arts, sports, science, and outdoor exploration.


• Maintain accurate records and statistics for inclusion in quarterly and annual reports.


• Coordinate camp activities in alignment with the Coordinator's directives, ensuring program objectives are met.


• Integrate culturally responsive curricula that enhance understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures, including weekly Indigenous cultural elements.


• Ensure a safe and healthy environment for children to interact and engage in play, actively identifying and mitigating potential hazards.


• Promote health and wellness through daily physical activities, mindfulness practices, and nutritional education.


• Support social and emotional learning to help children cultivate self-awareness, self-regulation, and interpersonal skills.


• Participate in program planning and review meetings, monthly team gatherings, and special meetings as required.


• Maintain accurate statistics for reporting purposes.


• Adhere to departmental policies and the Society's established procedures and practices.


• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Manager, Director, or designated supervisor.

Qualifications:


• Certificate in a relevant human/social services field.


• Six months of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.


• Proven ability to work effectively within a multicultural team environment.


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.


• Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Windows, MS Word, MS Works, MS Excel, and internet applications.


• Emergency First Aid and CPR certification.


• Proficiency in one of the languages spoken by the refugee client population is considered an asset.


• Experience working with diverse and multilingual groups.


• Knowledge of sportsmanship, etiquette, and rules for various common sports.


• Exceptional organizational and time management abilities.


• Capacity to conduct and facilitate group sessions.


• Ability to understand and effectively execute oral and written instructions, working both independently and collaboratively.


• Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated conflict resolution/problem-solving abilities.


• Valid BC Driver's License.
