The Role:

The Assistant Site Superintendent plays a crucial role in supporting the Site Superintendent, emphasizing process efficiency to ensure that development goals and objectives are met effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and plan project specifications;
  • Assist in creating construction schedules and site management strategies;
  • Oversee site setup, including enclosures, offices, access, and utilities;
  • Monitor and enforce adherence to schedules;
  • Ensure cleanliness and proper maintenance of the site management plan;
  • Uphold site safety protocols across all parties throughout the construction timeline;
  • Coordinate activities among trades and suppliers;
  • Maintain detailed daily logs and facilitate effective site meetings;
  • Implement and uphold a quality control program with established standards;
  • Ensure accuracy in all trade progress documentation;
  • Verify that trades maintain updated 'As Built' documentation;
  • Collaborate with governing authorities and consultants to secure occupancy permits;
  • Ensure timely commissioning of all equipment with trades and consultants;
  • Manage a construction inspection and deficiency resolution program prior to the Pre Delivery Inspection;
  • Assist in obtaining and verifying 'As Built' documents and manuals from trades;
  • Conduct monthly budget reviews with management;
  • Seek cost-effective alternatives to enhance financial performance;
  • Prepare and submit construction project budget estimates;
  • Plan, organize, direct, control, and evaluate construction projects from inception to completion;
  • Develop and monitor construction schedules and milestones;
  • Prepare contracts and negotiate changes with architects, consultants, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors;
  • Establish and implement quality control measures;
  • Represent the company in business services and union contract negotiations;
  • Prepare progress reports and update clients on schedules;
  • Oversee the procurement of building materials and land acquisitions;
  • Hire and supervise subcontractors and junior staff;
  • Ensure compliance with Minto's Health and Safety Program and relevant regulations;
  • Attend necessary Health and Safety training sessions;
  • Ensure employees receive appropriate training and report workplace hazards promptly;
  • Provide Health and Safety Orientation for new workers.

Additional duties may be assigned by management as needed.

Education: A College Diploma in Construction Management or a related field is required.

Experience: A minimum of one to two years of relevant experience in residential construction is required.

Specialized Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in computer applications, particularly MS Office Suite, is an asset;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (listening, verbal, and written);
  • Excellent customer service abilities;
  • Conflict resolution capabilities;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Relationship-building skills with a broad network of contacts, including staff, trade partners, inspectors, and suppliers;
  • Organizational and time management proficiency;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Ontario Building Codes, Energy Star guidelines, and Health & Safety Regulations.
