Role & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee significant projects, often managing multiple initiatives with values ranging from $1M to $50M.
  • Utilize comprehensive knowledge of business and management principles to manage all facets of project planning, budgeting, and resource allocation through discussions with internal clients to define project scope, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Review and approve work breakdown structures, cost estimates, baseline schedules, and project modifications requested by the organization or internal clients.
  • Authorize project expenditures and procurement requests, including purchase orders, invoices, and expense claims within designated authority limits.
  • Manage the performance of large project teams (typically exceeding twelve contracted, seconded, and/or project staff) by establishing project-related performance objectives and providing both formal and informal feedback, mentoring, and guidance to ensure project success.
  • Inspire project team members to deliver quality results on schedule and within budget, while coaching and mentoring others for success.
  • Define roles and responsibilities, manage performance, including disciplinary actions, appraisals, and merit allocations, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Establish and control project scope while managing risks and regulatory commitments.
  • Approve project scopes of work and determine project priorities and responsibilities.
  • Administer project budgets and schedules, approving necessary changes.
  • Manage and report on project performance to clients, senior management, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in management team meetings concerning project performance, priorities, and staffing.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Experience in managing teams on transportation-related infrastructure projects is preferred.
  • The Project Manager should possess a diploma or degree from an accredited institution in a relevant discipline such as project management, engineering, applied/building sciences, business, or commerce, with a proven track record of successfully leading large projects.
  • A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible project experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a senior or lead project role, is required.
  • Certifications such as P.Eng., CET, PMP, or AACE are advantageous.
  • Experience in managing projects across the Infrastructure, Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional sectors is desired.
  • Demonstrated experience in all typical phases of a project lifecycle (i.e., Project Definition; Concept Development; Detailed Design; Construction; Commissioning) is essential.
  • Knowledge and experience in applying processes for initiation, planning, executing, controlling, and closing within each phase are required.
  • Extensive knowledge of strategic planning processes, human resources, and people management is essential. Strong general management skills, including planning, budgeting, resourcing, time management, negotiation, contract management, and progress reporting for an executive audience, are necessary.
  • The Project Manager must effectively communicate (orally and in writing) with all levels of the client's organization, government officials, regulatory officers, customer representatives, partners, suppliers, industry peers, and the public.
  • Ability to deliver effective presentations to internal and external audiences, consistently at a senior level, and adeptness in utilizing various media technologies for professional presentations is required.
  • Negotiate with suppliers, contractors, and internal staff to ensure project phases are delivered on time, within budget, and at the expected quality level.
  • Manage customer/client expectations and satisfaction throughout the project's duration.
