PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
Your Role in Conservation.
Become an essential contributor to the preservation and enjoyment of Gatineau Park, the capital's conservation area. As a Visitor Information Specialist, your main responsibility is to deliver precise information about the Park (and other attractions), recommend routes or activities to guests, and advocate for the park's conservation objectives.
The mobile Visitor Information Specialist operates at various locations within Gatineau Park. The role involves providing guidance and orientation to visitors regarding different Park activities, sites, and regulations, particularly related to the Fall Rhapsody program, which occurs on weekends during the autumn season.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:
• Candidates must have completed secondary education and must be enrolled in a post-secondary program during the Fall of 2024.
• Candidates must be fluently bilingual in both official languages.
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES:
• Possess strong interpersonal communication skills for both individual and group interactions;
• Have relevant experience in public-facing roles, particularly in client or information services or tourism.
• Demonstrate good knowledge of Gatineau Park and the National Capital Region as a tourism destination;
• Understand the NCC's mandate and activities.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• Availability for up to 22.5 hours per week, as this position is part-time;
• Willingness to work weekends and civic holidays for the duration of the contract;
• Uniform will be provided by the NCC;
• Prepared to work outdoors in varying weather conditions;
• Attendance at mandatory paid training sessions for Information Specialists at the Gatineau Park Visitor Centre is required;
• Candidates must arrange their own transportation to assigned work locations within Gatineau Park, as public transportation is not available.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Project Officer of Sustainable Transportation, the Visitor Information Specialist:
• Welcomes and informs visitors about the various activities during the Fall Rhapsody weekends, including regular programs, services, and points of interest in Gatineau Park;
• Provides information regarding road closures during the event;
• Responds to information requests from visitors;
• Offers wayfinding assistance within the Park;
• Collects visitor feedback and suggestions;
• Contributes to service evaluation by recommending modifications or enhancements to activities, exhibits, program materials, or other aspects.
