Role Summary
As a Mental Health and Addictions Therapist within our Community Addiction Services, you will play a vital role in a multidisciplinary team aimed at providing comprehensive services and programs to our clients.
Your responsibilities will include educating clients about addiction and recovery processes, as well as providing counseling to individuals and families affected by substance use disorders and other forms of addiction in the designated areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct assessments related to substance use, gambling issues, and other relevant areas to inform treatment strategies.
- Provide individual counseling to facilitate recovery from addiction and mental health challenges.
- Design and deliver psycho-educational workshops for clients in both individual and group settings.
- Offer mentorship and guidance to volunteers, staff, and students during their observational roles.
- Facilitate group counseling sessions.
- Coordinate with referral sources and external organizations regarding client progress.
- Assist in discharge planning by connecting clients with suitable community resources.
- Support clients in organizing outpatient counseling and follow-up services.
- Provide family education and counseling services.
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a recognized Social Sciences discipline with a focus on addiction studies.
- Membership in a regulatory college, such as CRPO or another recognized body (e.g., OCSWSSW, CNO).
- Certification in Addiction Counseling (ICADC) is preferred or a commitment to pursue credentialing.
- Membership with the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation (CACCF) is encouraged.
- Valid registration with the relevant regulatory body in Ontario or in the process of obtaining it.
- Experience in both group and individual counseling, along with skills in delivering presentations to larger audiences.
- Experience working directly with youth in various settings.
- Experience in family counseling.
- Familiarity with gambling issues and gaming technology is an asset.
- Experience in coordinating care with other service providers.
- Demonstrated expertise in substance dependence, gambling, and concurrent mental health disorders.
- Experience with mood disorders is advantageous.
- Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Strong time management and organizational abilities.
- Valid Ontario Driver's License and access to a vehicle, with the willingness to travel as needed.
- Knowledge of addiction treatment across a continuum of care.
- Engaging, collaborative, and adaptable to clients' needs.
- Commitment to the values of service excellence, innovation, collaboration, and integrity.
- Adherence to health and safety standards.
