Position Overview

The Office of the Auditor General is dedicated to conducting independent and objective financial, compliance, and performance audits across various City departments and associated entities. Our mission is to enhance the value of City programs and services through systematic evaluations aimed at improving risk management, control, and governance processes.

In this role, you will deliver a comprehensive range of assurance and investigative services to all departments within the Corporation. Your efforts will focus on enhancing operational efficiency, ensuring value for money, and supporting the corporate vision in fulfilling the needs of management and the City Council. You will lead and execute assignments of varying complexity, including extensive audits and investigations, either independently or as part of a collaborative team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop actionable results and recommendations to assist clients in identifying and implementing enhancements in strategic and operational planning, business processes, and organizational design.
  • Provide expert advice on change management, performance measurement, quality assurance, and risk management.
  • Conduct audits and investigations with a focus on adding value and improving service delivery.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure effective communication and positive client relationships.

Qualifications

A four-year university degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related discipline is required, along with a minimum of six years of internal audit experience. Additional relevant experience in program evaluation, performance monitoring, business process design, or external auditing is advantageous.

Certifications

Candidates must possess a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation from CPA Ontario, a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) certification from IIA Canada, or a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) credential from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE).

Knowledge and Skills

  • In-depth understanding of the City's operations, policies, and legislative frameworks.
  • Familiarity with generally accepted auditing standards and risk management practices.
  • Proficiency in project management and mentoring techniques.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to apply various methodologies to identify issues and develop solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present findings effectively.
