About the Role
Assiniboine Park Conservancy is in search of a Veterinary Associate to enhance their dedicated team. This position involves delivering exceptional health services for animals, including urgent care, overseeing veterinary training programs, and engaging with various partner organizations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer routine health assessments for animals
- Oversee veterinary staff during medical procedures
- Conduct health screenings for animals entering and leaving the facility
- Assist with the logistics of animal transportation
- Ensure staff proficiency in safety protocols
- Monitor and educate on zoonotic disease prevention
- Engage in reproductive health and nutritional initiatives
- Collaborate with animal care personnel on welfare assessments
- Provide guidance to veterinary interns and students
- Coordinate with local veterinary specialists
- Participate in scientific research initiatives
- Deliver emergency veterinary services
- Foster a supportive team environment
- Act as a representative of the organization in public communications
- Contribute to daily animal care tasks
- Assist with the operational duties of the Director when necessary
- Perform additional responsibilities as needed
Required Qualifications:
- Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine
- 2-3 years of experience in zoological veterinary practice
- Preference for candidates with ACZM board certification
- Strong interest in large animal veterinary care
- Exceptional communication and organizational abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of animal care and management
- Capability to work collaboratively and prioritize effectively
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and ZIMS software
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License
