Join the Toronto District School Board as an Outdoor Education Specialist and contribute to the development of outdoor education programs for elementary and secondary students.

Job Summary:

The Outdoor Education Specialist will provide outdoor education program delivery, preparation, and development for elementary and secondary students. This includes creating and maintaining program equipment, displays, and facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide outdoor education program delivery, including curriculum-based lessons in natural settings.
  • Assist with preparation of outdoor education materials, such as displays and equipment.
  • Maintain resources for outdoor education programs.
  • Assist with outdoor education lesson preparation.
  • Provide guidance for outdoor education interns.
  • Assist with overnight supervision of students, as required.
  • Perform site-specific administrative duties.
Qualifications:
  • Two-year community college diploma in a related field, with one year of related outdoor education experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Proven competency in outdoor and beyond-the-classroom skill areas.
  • Proven outdoor experience with elementary, intermediate, and secondary students.
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to work as a team player.
  • Working knowledge of related Board policies and procedures.
  • Background knowledge of outdoor and environmental issues.
Assets:
  • Computer skills.
  • Significant large group facilitation experience.
  • Animal care experience.
  • Prior experience working with curriculum.
Special Requirements:

Must lead and participate in often strenuous outdoor activities, such as walking, hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, canoeing, swimming, and be able to respond to emergency situations while leading such activities.

Locations: Various outdoor education centres in the Toronto area.

Hours: 40 hours per week, with flexibility to accommodate program needs.

Work Year: School year.
