Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Specialist will be responsible for troubleshooting defective or underperforming processes and systems, and developing, recommending, and implementing preventive actions. The Maintenance Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that our process equipment’s durability and reliability is always being improved.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Detect and troubleshoot issues with building systems and process equipment.
- Develop, recommend and implement preventive maintenance plans to reduce/eliminate breakdowns in the plant.
- Order replacement parts and equipment as needed through our CMMS or admin support.
- Maintain records of all maintenance activities and repairs in CMMS.
- Ensure compliance with safety guidelines and regulations.
- Perform routine maintenance on plant equipment, and machinery when required.
- Coordinate and oversee the work of outside contractors as needed.
- Provide work direction and guidance to Machinists and other journey-level workers on repair tasks requiring their participation.
- Execute special projects/assignments.
- Effectively responds to emergency breakdowns.
- Provides oral and written reports as required.
- Actively supports an inclusive and respectful work environment.
- Can work at heights and drive forklifts/genie booms as required.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
- Assist in the install, assembly, dismantling, and relocation of machinery and equipment.
- Work with our suppliers to ensure that equipment is maintained and to source parts from local suppliers to reduce lead time and cost, while maintaining quality.
**EDUCATION/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED**:
- Minimum of 6-8 years of relevant experience in maintenance or a related field
- Possession of relevant trade licenses (e.g., Millwright, Industrial Electrician) is required
- Experience developing, recommending, and implementing preventive maintenance plans
- Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) would be an asset
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to diagnose and solve problems effectively.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others.
- Flexibility to handle various tasks and challenges.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- The Maintenance Specialist is required to stand; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Frequent walking, including going up and down stairs and ladders, and bending are required.
- Working at heights may be required.
- Work Environment: Working conditions in certain areas can be wet, slippery and noisy.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time, able to crouch, bend and kneel, as well as capable of heavy lifting and carrying.
