Qualifications and Requirements

We are seeking a highly skilled Mental Health Counselor to join our team at Island Health. The ideal candidate will possess a Baccalaureate Degree in a health-related discipline and have recognized post-basic education related to mental illness. A minimum of two years of recent related experience is required, along with a significant understanding of mental health issues and knowledge of applicable legislation, such as the Mental Health Act and the Guardianship Act.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement mental health assessments, treatment methodologies, and intervention strategies.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver care in the community.
  • Provide education and support to clients and their families.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest research and best practices in mental health care.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
