Physician Resource Strategist for Northern Zone

Your Opportunity:
The Physician Resource Strategist is responsible for the development and execution of initiatives that enhance the operational efficiency of a strategic Recruitment Program within the northern zone. This role collaborates closely with the North Zone and Provincial Medical Affairs teams, healthcare facility leaders, external community partners, and North Zone Physicians to align healthcare objectives with effective physician recruitment strategies. A comprehensive understanding of business processes is essential for this position.
The Physician Resource Strategist must leverage best practices and insights regarding both internal organizational dynamics and external industry challenges to refine and enhance processes within the North Zone Medical Affairs portfolio. This effort aims to significantly improve healthcare delivery for Albertans residing in the North Zone.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain ongoing communication with the North Zone Medical Affairs Manager, Director, and Medical Director regarding recruitment needs. Develop a detailed Physician Workforce Plan that aligns with the AHS strategic plan, facility-specific strategies, and the AHS Rural Health Strategy.
Demonstrate the ability to identify and cultivate relationships with internal and external stakeholders, interpreting their needs, assessing requirements, and proposing effective solutions. Foster open communication with facility and community Medical Directors, Facility Leads/Directors/VPs, and relevant external partners regarding recruitment matters.
Ensure that advertising and information regarding North Zone vacancies and recruitment needs are current. Gather necessary documentation (e.g., College of Physicians and Surgeons, CMPA, references, CVs, medical degrees). Coordinate site/community visits and/or video interviews, assist with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta licensure process, and prepare documentation for Human Resource Development and Canada Immigration. Manage inquiries from foreign physicians interested in relocating to Canada and coordinate participation in annual Physician Recruitment Fairs and Resident Receptions. Prepare the North Zone Physician Workforce Plan.
May interact with media and serve as a spokesperson for Medical Affairs issues. Travel within the North Zone to build relationships with stakeholders and may be accountable for managing special projects related to Medical Affairs business needs. Perform other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
A minimum of a related post-secondary degree or diploma and two years of relevant experience. A combination of education and experience may be considered.

- Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
- Ability to inspire confidence in diverse groups.
- Experience managing large-scale change.
- Familiarity with Alberta Health Services systems and processes.
- Previous experience in Recruitment or Medical Affairs.
- Ability to manage projects or programs with moderate resource requirements and complexity.
- Capability to monitor and control costs associated with work.
- Knowledge of immigration and recruitment legislation and policies.
- Proficiency in office software databases (Outlook, Excel, Word) for correspondence and stakeholder inquiries.
- Understanding of political sensitivities and diverse stakeholder interests, as well as financial policies and legislation governing Freedom of Information and Privacy (FOIP).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
