About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Tax Specialist to join our team at TransAlta. As a key member of our finance team, you will be responsible for managing the filing of U.S. federal, state, and local tax returns, as well as providing tax advice and support on various business transactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the preparation and review of U.S. tax returns, including cross-border tax compliance filings.
- Develop and implement tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities and optimize tax positions.
- Provide tax advice and support on mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, restructurings, and domestic or cross-border financing.
- Monitor and analyze changes in tax legislation and assess the potential impact on the company.
- Manage and coordinate tax audits and inquiries by federal, state, and local tax authorities.
- Prepare and present responses to tax notices and audit findings.
- Work closely with the Finance, Legal, and Business Development teams to provide tax insights and support on various projects and initiatives.
- Assist in U.S. tax forecasting and modeling of cash tax horizon.
- Assist in the development and implementation of internal tax policies and procedures.
- Provide training and guidance to junior tax staff and other departments on U.S. tax-related matters.
Requirements
- Experience with Advance Pricing Arrangements and Tax Equity Partnership Financing is a plus.
