Junior Recreation Program Leaders (Term Instructor)
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Regional District of Nanaimo is on the lookout for several temporary part-time term instructors to take on the role of Junior Recreation Program Leaders.
These leaders are integral members of a recreation team dedicated to providing enriching program experiences for children and families.
Junior Leaders support Senior and Inclusion Leaders during various recreational activities.Key responsibilities include ensuring participant safety; leading engaging daily activities such as age-appropriate games, sports, arts, and crafts; facilitating the inclusion of all participants; engaging with parents and community members; managing program supplies, equipment, and facilities; and performing other related tasks as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Candidates should possess general qualifications including leadership experience (paid and/or volunteer) in direct interaction with children in recreational and/or childcare environments or similar services.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, a foundational understanding of recreational programs, and the ability to guide children's behavior are crucial.Applicants must hold a current first aid certification (Emergency First Aid, Standard First Aid, or Emergency Childcare First Aid) and CPR B or C, and should be currently enrolled in or have completed Grade 10.
Additional certifications such as High Five, NCCP, Canucks Autism Network, Physical Literacy 101, National Lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor, and training in nature interpretation and education, as well as outdoor skill development, are considered beneficial.
POSITION DETAILS
These roles are contingent upon program registration, and work hours will vary based on demand; however, typical hours will be Monday to Friday from approximately 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with potential evening hours until 9:00 p.m. and weekend shifts. The wage for this position is competitive.
