Job Summary

North York General Hospital is seeking a skilled Child and Youth Counsellor to join our dynamic team in the Child Mental Health Inpatient Unit. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide direct care to patients and families experiencing acute psychiatric conditions, focusing on social skills, strengths, and development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized plans of care in collaboration with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Provide direct care to patients and families, including assessment, treatment, and support.
  • Act as a role model and mentor to Child and Youth Counsellor colleagues and students.
  • Participate in comprehensive assessments of adolescents, focusing on psychosocial issues, strengths, and functioning in the context of the family and milieu.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized and comprehensive plans of care to achieve mutually agreed-upon goals.
  • Engage in evidence-based practice and participate in quality improvement activities to enhance the quality of Child and Youth Counselling interventions.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and contribute to unit/program/Hospital committees as required.
Requirements
  • Certified Child and Youth Counsellor Diploma from a recognized community college.
  • Baccalaureate degree in a related field, preferred.
  • O.A.C.Y.C. membership, preferred.
  • Broad experience in an acute psychiatric setting, preferred.
  • Bilingualism in French/English, an asset.
