OVERVIEW

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Associate Legal Advisor for Licensing & Accreditation plays a pivotal role in the formulation, drafting, and enhancement of materials that underpin the Law Society's licensing and accreditation frameworks. This position collaborates closely with the Senior Counsel & Manager of Entry Level Competence, as well as other team members, to evaluate and implement modifications to licensing protocols and policies, ensuring the integrity of entrance requirements. The Associate Legal Advisor also engages in the revision and development of existing policies and documentation associated with new initiatives and projects.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

An LLB or JD, along with a Class L1 license from the Law Society of Ontario* At least 3 years of experience in legal practice or in the domain of legal professional development Strong editing and drafting skills, particularly in creating policies, procedural documents, resources, and online content Comprehensive understanding of the Law Society's objectives, services, regulations, and policies In-depth knowledge of licensing process policies and protocols Exceptional writing abilities, with a focus on clarity and conciseness Keen attention to detail Capacity to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment Ability to work autonomously and collaborate effectively with colleagues Awareness of equity and fairness principles and initiatives Proficiency in French is advantageous Experience or coursework in adult education is beneficial Capable of analyzing, interpreting, and applying complex spoken and written information Proficient in word processing, email, and internet or intranet applications Intermediate or higher proficiency in Excel is a plus

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Client / Customer Service Delivery

The Associate Legal Advisor oversees and/or contributes to the creation of content related to licensing programs for legal professionals, including reference materials, policies, forms, and associated online content. Identifies and addresses the interplay between by-laws, guidelines, rules, and policies, along with their operational execution. Applies knowledge of the regulatory framework to content creation.

Policy Development

Develops, drafts, and evaluates policies, procedures, practices, and guidelines relevant to the licensing process, including experiential training, examination administration, and accommodations. Ensures that online content is updated to reflect policy and procedural changes and to address emerging issues in the context of professional licensure.

Team Collaboration

Promotes a positive team atmosphere by clarifying objectives, fostering individual commitment, valuing team contributions, recognizing the efforts of volunteers, contractors, and other Law Society personnel, resolving conflicts, enhancing the team's collective skills, and encouraging innovation and problem-solving. Coordinates work among staff, including program coordinators and others, to ensure timely and effective content development.

Research and Development

Plans for the implementation of innovations aimed at the continuous improvement of all aspects of the Law Society's licensing and accreditation functions.

WORKING ARRANGEMENT

The Law Society has adopted a Distributed Workforce Model to enhance flexibility and responsiveness, thereby maximizing employee productivity and engagement. The specific working arrangement for this role will be determined based on departmental needs and role requirements, with a hybrid model where the employee will alternate between home and office work.
