Job Summary

Bruce Power is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Emergency Services Maintainer to join our team. As an Emergency Services Maintainer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of our nuclear facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform fire protection duties, including combustible fire zone walkdowns, hot work inspections, and fire impairments, in accordance with procedural duties and responsibilities.
  • Respond to actual site incidents within prescribed time limits, including fire emergencies, first aid/medical situations, and rescue from heights or confined spaces.
  • Interact with other agencies, including external fire departments, external ambulance services, and external HAZMAT agencies.
  • Acquire and maintain appropriate licenses for driving/operating motorized equipment, including a DZ license.
  • Train and mentor ERT trainees, including theoretical training, practical skill training, and evaluation of trainees' skills.
  • Perform inspection, testing, and minor maintenance of Emergency Response Services equipment, including fire water supply/fire hose cabinets/fire hydrants, eyewash stations/emergency showers, emergency lighting units, speakers, fire extinguishers, and miscellaneous safety equipment.
  • Perform safety-related inspections and interact with other workgroups.
  • Provide input to and interact with other workgroups regarding control of ignition sources, including conducting field inspections, reviewing perimetry, and advising responsible workgroups that corrective actions are required.
  • Review and ensure understanding of activated rescue plans regarding work in confined spaces or at elevated heights.
  • Perform visual inspections and minor maintenance of all station fire exit doors and safety-related signage.
  • Record and sign off appropriate record forms and/or digital processes as per work management expectations.
  • Conducts, participates in, assesses, and evaluates station, site, and Departmental emergency exercises, drills, shift practices, and skill training as required.
  • Performs inspections, testing, fit tests, and minor maintenance on various emergency and hazardous response equipment, including Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, fire-fighting equipment, and fire extinguishers, PPE.
  • Acts as a technical resource for site staff in emergency services response matters.
  • Provides training and information as required for emergency and non-emergency staff in emergency services response areas, including respiratory protection, fire procedures, rescue considerations, shift training sessions, safety meetings, etc.
  • Attends and participates in all required training, including ERT, ERO, etc.
  • Uses computer skills to input required reports and information, including updating inspection reports, fire plans, emergency-related guides, etc.
  • Cleans and decontaminates Emergency Services equipment, identifies deficient equipment, and arranges for repair or replacement.
  • Performs minor painting on Emergency Services equipment.
  • Performs Emergency Response Organization (ERO) duties in a radiation emergency or drill event, including event briefings, scribe, radiation surveys, and contaminated casualty.
  • Performs hazard assessments, including HAZMAT, gas testing for confined space, radiation surveys, etc.
  • May be required to work in a supervisory capacity as an Incident Commander.
  • Maintains a physical fitness level commensurate with the requirements of the ESM job document and qualifications, such that the tradesperson is able to perform work in emergency situations wearing heavy and restrictive equipment, including bunker gear, SCBA.
  • Carries out good housekeeping and fire and accident prevention practices in the performance of the work.
  • As required, performs fit testing for all departments and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) on-the-job training for other work groups.
  • Provides support to the Dosimetry department for Thermoluminescent Dosimetry (TLD) badges, including preparing, gathering, processing, and changing out TLDs as required by procedure.
  • Provides support to Bruce A and Bruce B, on an as needed basis, to relocate and fill in-service cylinders.
